Module 4: More Apps and Tools!
This week was a lot of fun because I got to explore some new apps and programs that I have never heard of or tried before! I'm adding all of these sites to my bookmarks as we speak! For this post I think I'll go through each of the tools that I had to explore this week and share my thoughts about them.
I have used Flickr before when I was in high school. I think I used it mostly in my art classes, specifically in Photo I. My teacher meant wanted us to practice critiquing photos and thinking about the choices the photographer made. I do like this site because there are so many photos to look through and it could be used well in certain classes. After I looked around this site I opened up BigHugeLabs and Glogster, which I also enjoyed. I really liked BigHugeLabs because it's free and it provides some great templates .I didn't like Glogster as much because of how difficult it was to use it without being a paying customer. I love the idea of it and the templates they have available, but I couldn't even create anything without the same message popping up about I can't access certain tools because I do not have a premium account. Very frustrating! So while I love the idea and what you're able to do with the program, it just might not be for me.
I LOVE ZAMZAR. Sorry for the all caps there but where has this tool been all my life? Converting documents has been a struggle for me, especially since I am Apple user in my personal life and a lot of people aren't. So when I send someone a document that I created in Pages or Keynote, that can cause some problems! I am able to convert files on my computer without using a program like Zamzar but for students that don't have that option this tool would be very handy!
Survey Monkey and Screencast-o-matic weren't new to me but I haven't looked at them in awhile. I used Survey Monkey when I was in high school when I had to send out surveys for Yearbook (Ahh those were the days). My teachers also liked to use Survey Monkey in class as well. I never knew about Screencast-omatic until I started working in a school library. The librarian really liked making screen casts to put on the library website in case anyone need help navigating around. I like these two tools and I definitely will use them in the future.
I hadn't heard of Voki or Animoto before this week but both are great resources to remember! Animoto would be perfect for book talks or having students present a topic in a short but concise way. It's a great program to have because programs like iMovie and Premiere Pro can really be confusing, especially for younger students. I feel like this is a program that could be used by elementary, middle, and high school students. And then there's Voki. I love this tool and I think students will love it too! I definitely spent a good amount of time creating my avatar but it had to look realistic! I can picture a video of my avatar library homepage with a brief introduction to the library and the library website. I really love this tool and I can't wait to use it.
Doodle, BubblUs, and Timeline were also great! I really liked this week because there are so many tools out there but I fail to make time to really explore them. However, this week I made the time and I am happy that I did! This sparked some new ideas for me for the future!
