Module 14: Updated Technology Tips

Updated Technology Tips

It feels like I just came up with this list of technology tips yesterday. Sometimes I can't believe how time flies. Anyway, I really wouldn't change that much to my list, but I do think there are a few more tips that could be added and maybe could replace a few of the existing tips.

1) Learn more about adaptive and assistive technology. You may have students in your class who have special needs and they require different kids of technology to help them in their learning. Learn who is in charge of assistive technology in your school, it might be the librarian!

Why?
I would add this tip in because I didn't mention adaptive and assistive technology in my original list. You need to learn about tools that will help all of your students.

2) I mentioned how teachers should be more involved in social media but they should also look into gaming as well. There are fun games that students play at home and then there are educational games that you could try using in your classroom to keep students a little more engaged and interested in their schoolwork.

Why?
This tip should be added because gaming is a big part of the lives of some kids. Finding different ways to learn information will be helpful to students. We can do this by finding educational games to bring into the classroom.

3) Think about different ways that you can have your students present information. Papers and PowerPoints have become the typical way to do this. Switch things up! Have students make a podcast, a comic, a video, or anything else that is creative. It's hard for students to be excited about schoolwork but having them do something different might make it a little more enjoyable for them.

Why?
I always love making something. I do like papers but if I can make a brochure or a comic, I am much more in my element. I think there are a lot of students who like to be creative and show their creativity through their work. I think teacher should give their students the opportunity to do different kinds of projects that allow them to express themselves through their product.

4) Learn how to use the Library LibGuide and catalog You can either ask the librarian to help you with it or take a look yourself if you don't have the time to meet. The better you understand the library systems the better prepared you are to help your students.

Why?
I think this is very important. So many teachers do not take the time to learn about the library website and the catalog. Instead they rely on the librarian to answer every and all questions they have concerning the library and its resources. Yes, the librarians are here to help you but we do expect you to learn and be independent as well.
